A Guide to Your Child’s Elementary Report Card

Dear ÌìÑÄÉçÇø Parent,

We are excited to share your child's elementary report card with you. This report card is a tool for us—teachers and parents—to partner together. It shows your child’s progress toward meeting their end-of-year learning goals and helps us work together to support their success.

Our main goal in ÌìÑÄÉçÇø is to help our students learn to think critically, solve problems, and take ownership of their learning. This report card is designed to give you a clear picture of how your child is developing these important skills.

We encourage you to review this report card carefully. Below is a guide to help you understand how we communicate your child’s progress.

How to Read the Report Card

Academic Progress

For all elementary grades, we use a 1-4 scale to show your child’s current progress on specific, end-of-year learning goals.

1
Beginning
I am just starting to learn this
2
Developing
I am getting closer to the goal
3 ✅
Proficient (Goal)
I am at the goal!
4
Excelling
I can apply this learning deeply

Ìý

It is completely normal for students to have marks of "Developing" (2) or "Beginning" (1), especially at the start of the school year or when a topic is new. The goal is for every student to reach "Proficient" (3) or higher by the end of the year.

You may also see these marks for some learning goals:

  • NE - There is insufficient evidence to report.Ìý
    • This means that the teacher did not have enough information to accurately report your child’s proficiency at this time.
  • NA - This skill has not been taught or assessed yet.
    • This means that this skill has not been taught at this point in the school year, or that it has only been introduced at this time.

Responsibilities for Learning and Behavior

On our elementary report cards, we report on important behaviors like responsibility and following directions. We use a 1-4 scale to show how often your child demonstrates these skills:

4 - Consistently

3 - Usually

2 - Sometimes

1 - Rarely

We know that our partnership with you is the key to your child's success. We hope this report card helps you understand their learning journey. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Stan Machesky
Assistant Superintendent of Education ServicesÌý
