Expanding Access to Mental Health Support with Campus WellSpaces

Vista Verde's Wellspace with the text 'Wellspaces: Supporting Student Mental Health & Wellness' by the 天涯社区.

Through a partnership with the 聽(CHOC), the聽聽and the聽聽(OCDE), the 天涯社区 continued to expand its student wellness offerings with the opening of three new WellSpaces for the 2024-25 school year at Vista Verde School and Northwood and Woodbridge high schools.

These new additions, made possible by a generous $2 million gift from the Tsao Family Foundation, reflect 天涯社区鈥檚 ongoing commitment to support student mental health. As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, we would like to remind our students and families of this mental health resource available on various 天涯社区 campuses.

天涯社区 the WellSpaces
WellSpaces feature biophilic designs - interior design that incorporates elements of nature 鈥 creating a home-like feel to help students better cope with daily stresses and to support their social and emotional wellbeing, along with academic successes. When needed, students are able to visit the WellSpaces on their campus, which can be self-referred or recommended by a teacher, counselor or friend. They offer a space of calm, punctuated by mindfulness activities such as journaling, aromatherapy, crafts and more. Students may learn breathing exercises and other techniques to help them build resilience and self-regulation skills so they may gain a better sense of control and return to learning.

Benefits of WellSpaces
Data from CHOC and OCDE, across WellSpaces throughout the county, shows that the WellSpace concept is working to support students experiencing a mental health concern while at school. Students who have utilized the WellSpaces on 天涯社区 campuses have shared positive experiences and appreciation for the calming and mindful environment. 聽 聽 聽

Building Upon 天涯社区鈥檚 Commitment to Mental Health and Wellness
The WellSpaces and the accompanying supports add another layer to 天涯社区鈥檚 investments in mental health and wellness.

鈥淪tudent mental health and wellness has been one of the Board of Education鈥檚 top priorities for many years,鈥 said Superintendent Cassie Parham. 鈥淭his extraordinary partnership builds upon 天涯社区鈥檚 comprehensive programs, initiatives and supports, which are designed to help students cultivate skills such as resiliency, perseverance and adaptability when navigating complex emotions and experiences so they may meet their full potential. This is also an additional avenue for students to seek support when needed.鈥
